Chesapeake Fire Department
Class 40 Recruit School Pictures

Week 8 - (August 5th - August 11th) 2007

Week 8 of the Academy started off just as every other week…..with P.T. It was also another week of very hot temperatures. Once again the main word to the recruits was hydration. The recruits were told to drink water, and lots of it, so they don’t become dehydrated. Battalion 3 spent the first two days of the week learning all the ins and outs of how to gain entry into a locked structure. They learned how understanding the construction of doors and windows will make it easier to gain entry to a locked structure. On Thursday they were shown the public relations side of the Fire Department. Life/Safety Specialist B. Hoilman showed them how to conduct a good public demonstration and how to convey important fire safety messages. She then took them to perform what they had been taught. The recruits were taken to a day care and they conducted their first of many demonstrations for the kids. The recruits had a great time with the children and everyone (recruits and children alike) all learned how great it is to be in the Fire Department. Battalion 1 began their field ride time for EMT-E. They will not return to the Academy grounds until the last week of August, and I am sure they will return with some great experiences from their time in the field. Battalion 2 is in the heart of their EMT-E classroom instruction and they are doing very well.
