The big news at the Academy this week is the first group of recruits was going to their first live burn…… Battalion 3 was going to the Virginia Beach Fire Training burn building! This was the first time the recruits had an opportunity to bring together all the phases of their fire training. There were eight evolutions conducted at the burn building and all the recruits got plenty of time inside the structure. They now have a better understanding of all the things that the instructors were teaching them during the early part of fire school. By the end of the day, everyone was tired, but all the recruits had big smiles on their faces…….they had been in their first fire as a member of the Department and performed well. When Battalion 3 arrived back at the academy everyone in Battalion 2 was asking them what it was like, and with big smiles, the answer was just about the same from everyone “cool”.
